Lothar Herbert Matthäus (born March 21, 1961) is a former German football player and current coach. He was voted European Footballer of the Year and German Footballer of the Year in 1990 after he won the 1990 World Cup as captain of the Federal Republic of Germany. A year later he was also named the first ever FIFA World Player of the Year.
