Red Rectangle - Gouache Art Bernd Berner

Berner, Bernd

This gouache on laid paper by Bernd Berner captures the artist's distinctive balance between geometric clarity and painterly freedom. In this composition, a bold red rectangle rises from the center, surrounded by colorful splashes and translucent layers of gouache that create depth and energy.

Part of a series in which Berner explores recurring forms, sometimes rectangular, sometimes circular, each work unfolds as a unique dialogue of color and form. Considered one of the leading representatives of post-war abstract art in Germany, Berner developed his signature "flat spaces" from the 1950s onward: layered, meditative color fields that balance clarity and atmosphere.
