Light - Contemporary Painting by Riemer den Ouden

This painting is crafted with a solid, traditional approach, a work you can lose yourself in. From a distance, you see a melancholic or mysterious image or world. Up close, you see that the composition is built from thick, heavy abstract textures or bold brushstrokes, rendered in bright, sensitive colors.

Riemer Den Ouden is a Netherlands-based artist whose work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions across the country. Working primarily in oil, he explores the tension between figuration and abstraction, drawing on themes of light and darkness, rhythm, spirituality, and emotional expression.

His paintings combine the rawness of reality with a poetic, mysterious quality. From a distance, they appear as melancholic figures or landscapes; up close, bold brushstrokes, thick textures, and luminous colors reveal an abstract and expressive rhythm beneath the image.
