Bridge - Contemporary Painting by Riemer den Ouden

This expressive painting of a bridge, crafted with great skill, appears melancholic and mysterious from a distance. Upon closer inspection, one notices the thick, abstract, powerful structures and bold brushstrokes in luminous, expressive colors. Made with oil colors and cement on canvas.

Riemer Den Ouden is a Netherlands-based artist whose work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions across the country. Working primarily in oil, he explores the tension between figuration and abstraction, drawing on themes of light and darkness, rhythm, spirituality, and emotional expression.

His paintings combine the rawness of reality with a poetic, mysterious quality. From a distance, they appear as melancholic figures or landscapes; up close, bold brushstrokes, thick textures, and luminous colors reveal an abstract and expressive rhythm beneath the image.
