020620 Malqaf

Centmayer, Marcus

  • The Arabic word Malqaf means wind catcher - an architectural element that catches the wind over the roof and directs it down into the building, where it cools the rooms.
  • My Malqaf is a sculpture, made from a small basalt column, with a cascade of stepped surfaces that open into a dark opening on the underside of the sculpture.
  • Reminiscent of our trip to Cairo last autumn.
