American/Irish artist, born 1945: Geometric Minimalism - designs abstracted geometric forms, creating chessboard like patterns with strong colour application and rough brush strokes.

Studied at Croydon College of Art (London) and at Newcastle University (England).
Honorary doctorates in fine arts from the Massachusetts College of Art (Boston) and the National University of Ireland (Dublin), among others.
Nominated for the Turner Prize in 1989 and 1993.
